Last week, I shared the exciting news about Disney’s first Latina-inspired Princess, “Elena of Avalon” who will be making her debut this summer in a TV series on Disney Channel. “Elena of Avalor” follows the story of Elena, a brave and adventurous teenager who saves her kingdom from an evil sorceress and must now learn to rule as crown princess until she is old enough to be queen. Elena’s adventures will lead her to understand that her new role requires thoughtfulness, resilience and compassion, the traits of all truly great leaders. Aimee Carrero (Freeform’s “Young & Hungry”) stars as the voice of Elena.
This week, there’s more news about “Elena of Avalor” and the gowns that she’ll be wearing. Disney has collaborated with Project Runway All Stars’ Layana Aguilar to design the ballgown for Elena of Avalor, Best known as a fan-favorite contestant on Project Runway (Season 11) and Project Runway All Stars (Season 5), Layana Aguilar has gone on to create her own successful brand including a contemporary womenswear label designed to celebrate the many roles that women play in their day-to-day lives while owning their individuality and feeling empowered, and has designed for top celebrities such as Beyoncé, Heidi Klum, Dascha Polanco and others.
This is an image of the ballgown that she designed, which also served as the inspiration for the dress that Elena will wear at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort when she begins making appearances later this year. At Walt Disney World Resort, Elena will appear in the Magic Kingdom beginning in August. At Disneyland Resort, she will appear at Disney California Adventure this fall. I cannot wait to see it all come to life!
