Sofia Carson To Star in Disney Channel’s 100th Movie “Adventures in Babysitting” Premiering June 24th

Actress and singer Sofia Carson, best known for her role as Evie in the international smash-hit Disney Channel Original Movie (DCOM) “Descendants“, is starring in the upcoming “Adventures in Babysitting” which premieres Friday, June 24th at 8:00 p.m., ET/PT on Disney Channel. “Adventures in Babysitting” is the 100th Disney Channel Original Movie and was inspired by the hugely popular 1980’s film of the same name. In the film, Carson stars as Lola Perez, the bold and artistic teenager whose unexpected night of babysitting goes awry. In the movie, a dull evening for two competing babysitters, Lola (Sofia Carson) and Jenny (Sabrina Carpenter), turns into an adventure in the big city as they hunt for one of the kids who somehow snuck away. I got excited just watching the trailer:
Carson, who was featured as one of People En Espanol’s “50 Most Beautiful People” in 2015, is also starring in “A Cinderella Story: If the Shoe Fits“, a new, modernized version of the classic Disney tale that will air on Freeform. In addition to acting, Carson is currently signed to Republic Records/Hollywood Records and just released her debut single, “Love Is The Name“. Watch the video:

Latina Disney Princess Elena of Avalor Is Coming to Disney Parks

Disney Parks will welcome its first princess inspired by diverse Latin cultures and folklore. Princess Elena of Avalor will be appearing at Walt Disney World Resort this summer and at Disneyland Resort in the fall, following her television debut in a new animated series this summer on Disney Channel.

Kids and families worldwide will be enchanted by the story of Princess Elena, a bold, caring, funny and clever 16-year-old who is ascendant to the throne in the fairytale kingdom of Avalor. Princess Elena will make her debut in a special TV event this summer on Disney Channel. Aimee Carrero (Freeform’s “Young & Hungry“) stars as the voice of Elena. Craig Gerber (“Sofia the First“) created the series and serves as executive producer. The series follows the story of Elena, who saves her kingdom from an evil sorceress and must now learn to rule with the support of her appointed Grand Council and some magical friends by her side. Elena’s adventures will lead her to understand that her new role requires thoughtfulness, resilience and compassion, the traits of all truly great leaders, while highlighting the importance of family and family traditions.

The inspiring story of Elena of Avalor will be shared in 33 languages in 163 countries on Disney Channels worldwide. And, Disney Parks, where universally enchanting stories come to life every day, will be the place where families can see Disney’s newest princess in person. At Walt Disney World Resort, Elena will appear in the Magic Kingdom. At Disneyland Resort, she will appear at Disney California Adventure. The Disney Princesses at Walt Disney World Resort will welcome Elena in August. Her Disneyland arrival date will be announced in the near future.

Bowers Museum Presents Mummies of the World: The Exhibition

The nationally recognized Mummies of the World: The Exhibition debuted at the Bowers Museum on March 18 and will be displayed until September 5. It features more than 150 artifacts, real human and animal mummies from across the globe. With over 1.4 million visitors experiencing Mummies of the World to date, the display at Santa Ana’s Bowers Museum is the first time the exhibit has been to Orange County. As the largest exhibition of real mummies and related artifacts ever assembled, the exhibit provides a window into the lives of ancient people from every region of the world including Europe, South America and Ancient Egypt, offering unprecedented insights into past cultures and civilizations. Through modern science, Mummies of the World demonstrates how mummification can take place through natural and intentional practices. Included in the collection are:

the Vac Mummies
a mummified family from Hungary believed to have died from tuberculosis
the Baron Von Holz
a German nobleman found tucked away in the family crypt of a 14th century castle wearing his best leather boots
Egyptian animal mummies including a falcon, a fish, a dog and a baby crocodile, many of which were deliberately preserved to accompany royals for eternity
as well as MUMAB, the first replication of Egyptian mummification done on a decedent body in 2800 years; and much more.

The Angry Birds Movie Is Hatching In Theaters May 20

I don’t know who is more excited for The Angry Birds Movie, me or my daughter? These adorable characters had us all addicted way back when on our iPhones and now they’re coming to the Big Screen in a 3D animated comedy, On May 20, 2016, when the film hits theaters, we’ll finally find out why the birds are so angry! My contributor, Cynthia, spent a morning at Sony Pictures Studios, grabbing a “Sneak Beak” screening of the upcoming film. Although she can’t really tell us specifics about the movie, she did say that it’s a must-see for the entire family and that we’re all going to love it and laugh a lot!The movie takes us to an island populated entirely by happy, flightless birds – or almost entirely. In this paradise, Red (Jason Sudeikis, We’re the Millers, Horrible Bosses), a bird with a temper problem, speedy Chuck (Josh Gad in his first animated role since Frozen), and the volatile Bomb (Danny McBride, This is the End, Eastbound and Down) have always been outsiders. But when the island is visited by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to these unlikely outcasts to figure out what the pigs are up to. (Bill Hader is the evil pig leader Leonard.)

Not only did my contributor get a “Sneak Peak” at the film, she also got to sit in on a group interview with the film’s producer, “John Cohen” and Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, and Bill Hader, from the voice cast. These guys had the media-filled audience in stitches as they talked about details from behind the scenes. I’m even more excited to see it now! Overall, it seems that casting hit the nail on the head with these four! The combination of their humor and what each of these actors brings to the table is something that definitely translates into a hilarious film that’s going to cater to an audience of all ages! Remember, the film “hatches” in theaters everywhere on May 20! Will you be there?

Disney’s “Snow White” at El Capitan Theatre For Just One Night on February 16!

I Fell in Love With Nicholas Sparks’ “The Choice”

I’ve been counting down the days until February 5th, when Nicholas Sparks’ highly anticipated film “The Choice” will hit theaters! I have loved reading every one of his novels so far! Whenever he brings these beautiful stories to life on the big screen, I get about as giddy as a schoolgirl! When I first watched the trailer for “The Choice”, I hadn’t read the book yet. It’s the story of feisty medical student Gabby Hollan [Teresa Palmer], who moves in next door to a ladies’ man Travis Shaw [Benjamin Walker]. They embark on a surprising romantic journey that neither one ever imagined possible. Travis has always believed a serious relationship would cramp his easygoing lifestyle, while Gabby is preparing to settle down with her long-term boyfriend, until an irresistible attraction between the unlikely couple completely disrupts both of their well-planned lives. Oh I just LOVE Nicholas Sparks’ stories!

The on-screen chemistry in the trailer between Travis and Gabby is intense! Seriously, watch it and tell me if it takes your breath away like it did mine! Oh, you also may want to grab a tissue because your eyes will well up with some tears. So, watch this:

As usual, Mr. Sparks has captured a beautiful and romantic storyline, cast beautiful actors to bring his characters to life on screen, and shot the entire thing in a breathtaking location. I am enamored by “The Choice”! A group of my teacher friends at work (including myself) decided we’d all read “The Choice” and have a “Book Chat” during a few of our lunch hours after reading it! Initially we allowed a week to finish the book before we were set to discuss it. However, a majority of us finished it really quickly because we were so into it! Our initial chat about the book surrounded the theme, “How far would you go to keep the hope of love alive?” The specific of that specific conversation shall remain secret but let’s just say there were many who could relate but had buried their own personal stories long ago. Over a few different lunch hours, we did a lot of giggling and came up with the following observations in our “Book Chat” about “The Choice”:

We all LOVED it!
We were all dying over the chemistry between Travis and Gabby and knew they were destined to end up together. There’s just something about the way that they talked and had such a playfulness between them that clearly showed their instant attraction and gravitation towards each other!
We love the way that we can get lost in a Nicholas Sparks book as we can visualize getting lost in one of his beautiful stories and wrapped up in one of his love stories, regardless of any of our current life situations.
We were all excited about the sneak peek pictures in the back of the book that were still shots from the film!
There were definitely tense, scary parts that kept us on the edge of our seats when we read the book and will hopefully be as intense in the theater.
None of us can wait to see it all play out on the Big Screen.

At our last “Book Chat” lunch hour, we also decided to make a group girl date to go see the film on February 5 when it opens in theaters! I can’t wait to see it all unfold on the big screen!
