Build Your Child’s Library With These Books from Clever Publishing

As a teacher and a mom, I know the invaluable importance of reading. Establishing the love of reading in a child starts early and it starts at home. There’s no better way to help a child love to read than to read with them. For younger-aged children, having access to a variety of picture books and books that are simple to read can really help motivate them. Clever Publishing has a beautiful collection of books and was kind enough to send me copies of “First Words” and “First Animals”.

These encyclopedia books each contain over 500 words, which means there are at least 500 things to learn from each one. Clever Encyclopedias offer children interesting facts about exciting topics in an illustrated, accessible format. Each edition includes activities and exercises designed to keep readers engaged and inspire meaningful learning connections. Irvine Park Railroad’s 14th Annual Pumpkin Patch + Enter to Win

It’s almost Fall Y’all and although that doesn’t usually mean sweaters and boots here in SoCal, it does mean that we’re starting to see pumpkins pop up all around. It also means that it’s almost time for Irvine Park Railroad’s 14th Annual Pumpkin Patch to begin! This event has become an annual tradition for us and offers fun for the entire family. This year, the Pumpkin Patch which be open daily beginning September 14th and go through October 31st. Irvine Park Railroad is located inside of Irvine Regional Park in the foothills of Orange, California.The Pumpkin Patch is located in Locomotive Loop and Miner’s Meadow just behind the train station. Thousands of pumpkins, in all shapes and sizes, fill the areas behind the train station. All visitors are sure to find the perfect pumpkin.This year’s Pumpkin Patch activities include:

Pup Academy LIVE Action Talking Canine Adventure to Debut on Disney Channel 8/26

Jurassic World: The Ride Now OPEN at Universal Studios Hollywood!

I received tickets for my family and I to spend a day in the park in order to faciliate this post. All opinions are my own.

The anticipation for the opening of Jurassic World: The Ride had been building since it closed last spring as the formerly known attraction Jurassic Park. Our family LOVED the film Jurassic World, most likely for all different reasons and so we couldn’t wait to visit and ride this newly imagined ride.

Inspired by the Jurassic World blockbuster films, this spectacular new thrill ride features the film’s stars, Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard and BD Wong, who reprise their roles as Owen Grady, Claire Dearing and Dr. Henry Wu, and soars to new heights with the addition of iconic dinosaurs from the movie, including the colossal Indominus rex and the magnificent aquatic Mosasaurus.

Here’s what you can expect to encounter on “Jurassic World—The Ride”: The elaborately themed all-new “Raptor Encounter” where Blue, the beloved Velociraptor from the JURASSIC WORLD movies, engages with guests in daring face-to-face encounters, along with the addition of two new dinosaurs – a Baby Raptor with her Raptor Handler and a life-size Triceratops who greet guests outside the “Jurassic World—The Ride” entrance, further enhance the entire experience.

We had so much fun on the ride and ddin’t know any of this beforehand so it was one big surprise.

Know Before You Go

Here are a cuople of tips that you may find helpful before you visit Universal Studios Hollywood to ride Jurassic World: The Ride. 

  • You WILL get wet! Regardelss of where you sit, you are going to get wet. We weren’t dying to be drenched, just because it was early in the day and we didn’t want to walk around soaking, so we opted for row 4. We still got wet but not too badly. The guests in rows 1 and 2 were definitely drenched after the ride. It just depends on what you’re hoping to gain from the ride.  By the way, every row is a great seat for this adventure! 
  • They sell ponchos! Yes! You can purchase an inexpenisve poncho in the shop adjancent to the attraction, which is called “Jurassic Outfitters”.  There are also complimentary lockers to put your belongings in before you get in line. I also brought a plasitc bag to put my cell phone in during the ride. 
  • Wear sunblock! You may find yourself waiting in line in the direct sunlight. Also, there are parts when you’re on the boat, that you’ll be glad you sprayed beforehand. Don’t forget to spray your scalp and/or your head. 

Don’t forget to check out the new interactive “Dino Play” area , located outside of the attraction, which is designed to inspire children of all ages to explore and excavate giant dinosaur fossils.

While you’re in the Jurassic World area of the park, you’ll want to grab a bite at he Juarassic Cafe.  There you’ll find an extensive menu serving “the taste of Costa Rica” with delicious, freshly made menu items including: Pomegranate Guacamole, Tropical Fruit Salad, Crispy Green Lettuce Rolls with Shrimp, Roasted Chicken Salad, Mahi Mahi with Melon Pico, Slow Roasted Mojo Pork, Mojo Jackfruit, and more.

You can also find refreshing, tropical drink offerings right next to the Jurassic Cafe at the Island Nu-Bar. It’s a great way to cool off and feel the island vibe of Jurassic World! (Just look out for the dinosaurs!)

Jurassic World: The Ride is a definite must-ride this summer so if you haven’t had a chance to get there, what are you waiting for? Celebrate the Holiday Season at Disneyland Resort Nov. 8 – Jan. 6

  • The holidays are zooming into Cars Land and the residents are racing to celebrate the season. Two attractions rely on holiday magic to transform into Luigi’s Joy to the Whirl and Mater’s Jingle Jamboree. The whimsical “Snowcar” greets guests on the road to Radiator Springs, and each “Cars” character also gets a holiday makeover at their Route 66 address to reflect their personality.
  • Santa Claus is coming to town! Guests will enjoy special holiday-themed activities with Santa and his sleigh full of mischievous elves at Santa’s Holiday Visit at the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail.
  • As guests enter the park and stroll along Buena Vista Street, a dazzling, 50-foot Christmas tree adorns Carthay Circle to help guests get in the holiday spirit. The tree and surrounding buildings are decorated with vintage-style ornaments in keeping with the theme of Buena Vista Street, inspired by Los Angeles as it appeared when Walt Disney arrived in the 1920’s. Pacific Wharf, Hollywood Land and Grizzly Peak will also sparkle with holiday décor throughout the season.
  • Guests will drift into a wintry mood as they encounter the splendid sisters Anna and Elsa inside the Disney Animation building. At Disneyland Park

  • In the evening, the spectacular “Believe … in Holiday Magic” fireworks spectacular and its magical snowfall finale create lasting holiday memories for guests.
  • Mickey, Minnie, Disney Princesses and Santa celebrate the season in “A Christmas Fantasy” parade, a daily procession with floats, music and marching “tin soldiers.” Guests may wave to Anna, Elsa and Olaf, who bid them a warm winter welcome from their fantastic “Frozen” float.
  • The holiday magic shines brightly with the glow of the shimmering icicles and twinkling lights on Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle, enchanting guests from day to night.
  • Guests entering Disneyland are greeted by a magnificent. 60-foot tall Christmas tree on Main Street, U.S.A., decorated with nearly 1,800 ornaments. The classic tree is an ideal location for holiday photos, to document the magical memory for a lifetime.

It’ll be CHOC Walk’s 29th year of putting on such an amazing event to benefit CHOC Children’s and the kids, both past and present patients. The walk is the only one of its kind in the U.S., which takes place throughout the Disneyland Resort!This year’s event will take place in the early morning of Sunday, August 11 and will be led by this year’s CHOC Walk Ambassador, Ella Boyle and Team Boyle. Here’s a little bit about Ella’s story and why they walk:
2019 CHOC Walk Incentives
Not only do walkers help raise funds to support CHOC Children’s but there are also incentives for fundraising, allowing walkers to earn various prizes. Here are just a few of the incentive levels:

FunBox: The Colorful Pop-Up Museum of Photo Opps

When you’re the mom of a teen, they are always the first ones to let you know about all of the cool things that come into town! When my daughter showed me FunBox on Instagram and some of the cute photos they had posted on their page, I knew it was a “must-visit” for us this summer.If you haven’t heard of FunBox yet, lean in closely because I have all of the details right here for you. FunBox description reads “Colorful FUN Museum of Toys“. This interactive, pop-up style attraction includes 25 different rooms with unlimited potential for Instagram-worthy photos and videos. Currently located inside of the Westfield Santa Anita Mall, you can find FunBox within the lower level Food Court area.Know Before You Go 
I would definitely advise looking over FunBox’s Instagram page prior to your visit, to get some inspiration and some ideas for what to wear. Although there is no dress code, you might find that certain outfit choices will photograph better than others. You also might want to bring certain accessories along with you such as sunglasses or other small props.Ticket Prices
Pricing for Fun Box is as follows:

  • Adults (age 13+) : $19.00
  • Kids (ages 4-12) : $14.00
  • Ages 0-3 are FREE.

What to Expect on Your Visit 
When you arrive at FunBox, you’ll see an area to get in line. Prior to getting in line, make sure to grab your tickets, because they are for a specific entry time. (You can get your tickets online here before your visit or when you arrive.) An employee is stationed just outside of the line to answer any questions and as your designated entry time nears, they will explain how your visit will go before letting you inside.

***Tip: Consider being towards the end of the line for the group you’re going in with.  Although you’ll need to wait for the people in front of you to take their photos first, you’ll feel less rushed and have less people running through your photos if you’re last or close to last. Once You’re Inside FunBox
One you go into FunBox, there isn’t a specific time limit but there are certain parts where you aren’t allowed to go back. I would allot about an hour, maybe a little more, to get through all of the rooms and areas. I think it can also vary depending on how crowded it is when you visit. I’m assuming weekends are far busier than weekdays.Some of the rooms you’ll visit at FunBox include: 

  • Teddy Bear Tunnel
  • Bubble Party Ball Pit
  • Human Car Wash
  • Rainbow Throne Room
  • Pig Room
  • Saturday Morning Breakfast

(It’s inside the Food Court, next to Dave + Busters & AMC Movie Theatre and they suggest parking near The Cheesecake Factory)Currently, FunBox is only scheduled to be open through the end of August. Their schedule could extend but I wouldn’t recommend putting off your visit, just in case they do close up shop then. It’s a definite must-visit this summer!
